1914 Battle of the Marne Tour

The plains of Brie witnessed the first stages of the Battle of the Marne, which lasted from 5 to 12 September 1914.
Since the outbreak of war in August, the German army had crossed Belgium and was pursuing the retreating French armies and British expeditionary force.
Paris was only 40 kilometres away! But history took a different course... The "Miracle of the Marne" ensued.
Start at the Musée de la Grande Guerre (Great War Museum), in Meaux and follow in the footsteps of the soldiers of the Battle of the Marne, as you discover the places and people that made history.
A 55-kilometre tour through the countryside and 11 sites to explore, evoking a decisive battle of the First World War, in an almost unchanged landscape.
